Semaglutide is the active ingredient in many popular weight loss drugs including Wegovy, and Ozempic (which is currently approved primarily to treat type 2 diabetes). A glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, it mimics a gut hormone the body releases when we eat, which then tells the body to produce insulin, regulates blood sugar levels, decreases appetite and increases feelings of fullness by slowing gastric emptying.
