How To Improve And Sustain Energy Levels On GLP-1s

Common GLP-1 side effects

If you’re experiencing nausea, vomiting, constipation and diarrhea, don’t panic. These are the most common side effects of GLP-1 medications [1] [2], so you are not alone. You’re more likely to experience side effects when you start taking GLP-1s or when increasing a dose as your body adjusts to the medication. It can be common to feel fatigued, dehydrated and dizzy.

The good news is, our Levity experts have listed tips and tricks below to help lessen any unpleasant low or lack of energy side effects you may experience. It helps to plan your meals and snacks ahead of time, so you can feel more in control of your energy levels whilst still nourishing your body at the same time.

Dealing with low or a lack of energy

With a reduced appetite, it’s common to feel slightly lower in energy. From day one of your injection, try to get into the habit of getting some fresh air and doing some light exercise daily. Eating smaller, more frequent meals may help you feel more energised too as heavy, large meals may make you feel lethargic.

Sticking to a well-thought-out meal plan that has a good balance of protein, carbs, and a small amount of healthy fats, can contribute to better energy. Keeping yourself well hydrated throughout the day will help to increase energy levels and reduce fatigue.

Recommendations to support a lack of energy

If you’ve been taking GLP-1 medication for four or more months, at this point on your journey, you may have found yourself in good habits to support improved energy levels. The key is to keep hydrated to help with energy levels and to eat smaller meals that are low in fat and good sources of protein, carbs, and fiber.

The importance of daily routines and sleep

Depending on your daily routine, you may benefit from more or less physical activity to increase energy.

It’s important to have an established bedtime routine. Good quality sleep impacts your energy levels and food cravings too.

Check in with your stress levels

If you have a demanding lifestyle or feel overwhelmed with stress, you may wish to explore ways to manage stress as this has a direct impact on energy levels. Breathwork, gentle yoga, or mindfulness can be helpful but if you are struggling, always speak to your doctor.
