Wegovy can cause various side effects that individuals should be aware of to ensure a safe and effective treatment journey.
Common side effects
Common side effects of Wegovy (semaglutide) may include gastrointestinal issues like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation, particularly when starting treatment. To alleviate nausea, individuals can try getting fresh air, sipping cold drinks, and consuming small, frequent meals.
You might also experience injection site reactions, and, rarely, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) or pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). Reactions around the injection site and headaches, other common side effects, can generally be managed with over-the-counter remedies.
If you are experiencing severe, worsening or persistent symptoms you should stay hydrated and consult with a healthcare provider.
Uncommon and rare side effects
Uncommon side effects, may involve an increased pulse rate, a general feeling of being unwell, dehydration, and gallbladder inflammation. Although these are uncommon, we also recommend monitoring for thyroid tumors.
Rare side effects, seen in fewer than 1 in 100 people, include kidney-related issues, such as reduced function and failure, with signs like a metallic taste, reduced urine volume, and easy bruising. If you recognise these symptoms and seeking prompt medical attention is essential.
While serious side effects are rare, they may include allergic reactions or pancreatitis. Please seek immediate medical attention if symptoms like difficulty breathing, swelling or severe abdominal pain occur.
If you have any questions about side effects or how to manage them, the Levity clinical team is here to support you.
